There are many ways to go about losing weight and low carb diets are really popular. Low carb simply means low carbohydrate. All you have to do is reduce the number of carbs you eat on a daily basis, especially refined carbohydrates, and you will see the pounds fall off. There are generally three stages in low carb diets although they are all slightly different. They include the first stage, second stage, and third stage.

First Stage

The first stage is the time when you eliminate practically all carbs and clean out your system. This means getting rid of all of your cravings for refined carbohydrates and forgetting about refined sugar. You will eat mostly protein including eggs, cheese, meat, and low carb vegetables. During this stage you will lose between eight and 13 pounds, which is a good start to any diet!

Second Stage

The second stage you can generally begin eating a bit more of a selection including unrefined carbohydrates and more vegetables. You won’t be able to eat things like potatoes, but sweet potatoes are okay. You can have green beans, but avoid the corn. There are other foods that you can begin enjoying, too, like no sugar added ice cream or whole-wheat bread on occasion. You still need to stay away from refined sugar, white bread, and the like.

Third Stage

The third stage is known as the lifestyle stage. This is when you have reached your goal weight and you begin eating to maintain this weight. You will be able to eat a few more foods and even indulge in dessert every once and a while. Most of the low carb diets have books that will walk you through the diet and help you reach your goal weight.

The great thing about low carb diets is that you can lose a lot of weight fast and then slowly take off the rest. Most people are able to lose close to 15 pounds in the first month and this is a big motivator. After that, a pound or two per week should be expected until the goal weight is reached. Regardless, this is a great way to lose weight and achieve the body you have been dreaming of. If you really want to lose weight or you have a big event coming up this is the best diet to go on because if you follow it the weight really will just come off. This will motivate you to continue on the diet to your goal weight.
