You may think you are eating well, but if you are not keeping track of what you eat then it is very likely that you are eating more than you imagine. This means that you are keeping yourself from losing weight by your eating habits. There is a great way to help yourself keep track of what you are eating and that is to keep a food diary.

How to Do It

If you think keeping a food diary is a good way for you to lose weight then you are probably wondering how to do it. Luckily, it is not very difficult at all and you can get started as soon as tomorrow! All you need to do is buy a notebook and then label each page with the date. Write down everything you eat.

This includes even a mouthful of ice cream or the last bite of your child’s sandwich. You have to determine where all of the calories in your diet are coming from and this includes every piece of gum and stray jellybean.

Maintaining your food diary is an easy way of losing weight because you become more aware of your food intake.

You need to simply focus on what you are eating and recording all of it for a week. Doing this will give you a good idea of what you are eating and how the calories are mounting up and keep you from losing weight. You never thought that second cookie or extra beer would have much impact, but when you go back over your food diary you will find there are many more “extras” than you had imagined. Getting your eating habits under control will allow you to focus on eating healthy foods and avoid the pitfalls of before.

Making Changes

Now that you know where you are going wrong it is time to make some changes. The first thing to do is to create an eating schedule. Have breakfast, a midmorning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner, and a late night snack. This will keep you full throughout the day and you will know what you are eating. Simply let other food opportunities pass you by, even if it goes against your instinct not to waste.

You are trying to lose weight and your food diary will help you do this by changing your eating habits.

It’s surprising how many of my friends didn’t know this about weight problems until I was talking about this article to them.
